Siaröfortet – rocks, beaches and its’ very own fort

Siaröfortet, built after the first world war to stop the Russian advance, was strategically located in the centre of the fairway between Vaxholm and Furusund.

Today, Siaröfortet is open to visitors and has been restored to its former glory, with canons and shooting shields above ground and a manoeuvre centre, kitchen and barracks inside the rock. There is a guided tour every day lasting about an hour.

For those of you who prefer to visit the fort independently, entrance tickets are available for purchase in the hostel café. But you don’t need to be that interested in military history to appreciate this lovely island.  There are opportunities for fishing and swimming, as well as boating. Or why not enjoy the wood-fire sauna followed by refreshments in the hostel’s summer café.
