Waxholmsbolaget since 1869
Waxholmsbolaget was founded in 1869. Ever since then we have operated daily year-round services in the Stockholm archipelago. On behalf of Stockholm Regional County Council we run collective sea traffic from Arholma in the North to Landsort in the South.
We provide a maritime equivalent to the Stockholm public transportation (SL) network, taking children from their archipelago communities to school, collecting fresh eggs from local farmers and making sure that Mr. Johansson on the little island of Harö receives his morning paper. Our boats also transport milk to archipelago stores and deliver the post.
The service is operated using Waxholmsbolaget’s 21twenty one own archipelago boats and four Djurgården ferries that are run by various contractors. In addition, we cooperate with with a number of private shipping companies who provide additional services during high season.
Altogether we transport over 4 million passengers and 7,000 tons of goods per year. This makes Waxholmsbolaget one of the largest ferry companies in the Stockholm region. We provide a lifeline to the Stockholm archipelago and its harbours helping to keep the area accessible to everyone, including summer guests, island residents and tourists from all over the world.
